Innovation Kyoto 2016 Investment Limited Partnership ("KYOTO-icap No.1 Fund"), with Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation ("Kyoto iCAP") (Head office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; President: Koji Murota) as unlimited liability partner, has made an investment in Lang-8 Corporation ("Lang-8"), a venture company utilizing Kyoto University's research results. ("Lang-8") (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Yohyo Ki), a venture company that utilizes the results of research at Kyoto University.

Ltd. to Invest in Lang-8 Co.
Lang-8 is a company that plans, develops, and operates "Lang-8" and "HiNative", language learning web services where users teach each other. The company's web services are accessed from more than 180 countries in 120 languages, and questions and answers are actively exchanged not only about languages but also about culture, and the services are expected to grow into global services that promote mutual understanding among multiple cultures.

The company has also signed a joint research agreement with the Department of Intelligent Informatics, Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University (Professor Sadao Kurohashi) to improve automatic translation and correction technology using the unique data of natural human translation and correction sentences, which the company owns and generates in large volumes, and to develop its application to its services.

Kyoto iCAP evaluated these factors and invested 65 million yen in Lang-8's Series A private placement with a payment date of October 15, together with East Ventures (headquartered in Tokyo; CEO: Taiko Matsuyama, Batara Eto), individual investor Kotaro Chiba, DeNA Co. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President and CEO: Isao Moriyasu) and other investors, and invested 65 million yen.
