Execution of Investment in T.M. Factory Co.

Innovation Kyoto 2016 Investment Limited Partnership ("KYOTO-iCAP No.1 Fund"), with Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation ("Kyoto iCAP") (Head office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Koji Murota) as unlimited liability partner, has made an investment in Tiem Factory Co. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Yamaji, Representative Director), a venture company that utilizes the research results of Kyoto University.

Execution of investment in Tieme Factory, Inc.
T.M. Factory is a venture company whose main business is research and development related to aerogel, a transparent heat insulating material. This aerogel is a new material invented in collaboration with Associate Professor Kazuki Nakanishi of the Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University, and others, and is expected to be applied in a wide range of fields including housing, factories, electrical products, automobiles, and aircraft.

Heat loss from transparent areas is a major issue in realizing an energy-saving society, but materials that can simultaneously achieve transparency and high thermal insulation properties are still not widely used in the general public. Several companies and groups in Japan and abroad are engaged in research and development of aerogel, a type of transparent heat insulator, but its production efficiency and manufacturing cost have not yet reached the level of practical application.

Against this backdrop, Thieme Factory has established a proprietary manufacturing process that has made it the first company in the world to successfully produce aerogel at a cost that makes it widely available. Aerogel made by Thieme Factory can be deployed in numerous products, including insulating sashes, insulating walls, insulating paints, and insulating windows for automobiles and aircraft.

Kyoto iCAP, together with NEC Capital Solutions Limited and TechAxel Ventures, Inc. The company has invested 50 million yen in the company.
