Innovation Kyoto 2016 Investment Limited Partnership ("KYOTO-iCAP No.1 Fund"), with Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation ("Kyoto iCAP") (Head Office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Koji Murota) as unlimited liability partner, has made an additional investment of 18.9 million yen in ("KORAGEN PHARMA") (Head office: Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Hiroshi Nose) for an additional investment of 18.9 million yen.

Collagen Pharma is a venture company that manufactures and sells research reagents using artificial collagen-like polypeptides and conducts research and development of medical devices. The artificial collagen-like polypeptides developed by Collagen Pharma have high potential as biomaterials for medical use, as they can add new bioactivity to peptides and control their shape, physical properties, and biodegradability.

The first product developed using this new material is a medical device for macular hole, a disease that causes vision loss and distorted vision due to a hole in the center of the retina caused by the vitreous body inside the eye pulling on the retina. The company is working on its practical application in cooperation with Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Waseda University, and Kyoto University.

Kyoto iCAP hopes that this additional investment will accelerate KORAGEN PHARMA's research and development, and that in the future this product will become a new treatment option for patients suffering from macular hole.
