Notice of Establishment of Kyoto iCAP No.2 Fund
Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation (Head Office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Kimi Kusumi; hereinafter referred to as "Kyoto iCAP") today announced the establishment of "Innovation Kyoto 2021 Investment Limited Partnership (KYOTO-iCAP No. 2 Fund)" with the Company as the general partner.
Outline of KYOTO-iCAP No.2 Fund
The amount raised by the KYOTO-iCAP No. 2 Fund is 18.14 billion yen. The fund will mainly invest in venture companies that utilize Kyoto University's research results and support their growth, but a portion of the fund will also be used to support ventures originating from national universities other than Kyoto University.
The maturity of the KYOTO-iCAP2 Fund is 12 years and can be extended for another 5 years with the consent of the investors. The longer maturity than usual for a venture investment fund allows us to invest in seed/early stage ventures that have just been established, as well as ventures in the deep-tech area such as materials and machinery that require time before exiting (listing on the stock exchange or M&A).
In January 2016, we began managing the "Innovation Kyoto 2016 Investment Limited Partnership" (KYOTOiCAP No. 1 Fund), and over the past five years we have invested in 42 companies, mainly venture companies originating from Kyoto University. With the establishment of the KYOTO-iCAP No. 2 Fund, we will expand our support to realize the return to society of the excellent research results of national universities and to strengthen Japan's industrial competitiveness.
