Investment in DPS Inc.
Innovation Kyoto 2016 Investment Limited Partnership ("KYOTO-icap No.1 Fund"), with Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation ("Kyoto iCAP") (Head office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Kimi Kusumi) as general partner, has invested in DPS Inc. ("DPS") (Head office: Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Hongzhi Shira), a venture company that utilizes the results of research at Kyoto University.
Outline of this investment
DualPore™ is an inorganic particle made from silica monoliths with two types of pores, through holes and fine holes, invented by Kazuki Nakanishi, former associate professor at Kyoto University Graduate School of Science (currently professor at Nagoya University Institute for Future Materials and Systems). DualPore™ is an inorganic particle made from silica monoliths with two types of pores (through holes and fine pores) invented by Kazuki Nakanishi, former associate professor at Kyoto University's Graduate School of Science (currently professor at the Nagoya Institute for Future Materials and Systems).
DPS is currently working on the recovery of precious and rare metals using DualPore™, and has succeeded in recovering and recycling palladium at a high purity of a few ppm after its use in the manufacture of three-way catalysts and plating of electrical components. The establishment of a mass production system has been completed, and we are now working to build a network and expand sales in partnership with manufacturers, trading companies, recyclers, and metal smelters.
Furthermore, DualPore™ has been successful in solving problems in the expected next-generation industries, such as low back pressure in flow chemistry, trace metal removal from raw materials in semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and high-precision separation of peptides in mid-molecular drug discovery.
Kyoto iCAP has made an additional investment of 100 million yen in the company to continue to support its operations, which generate new profits by recycling precious and rare metals that were previously discarded and contribute to achieving the SDGs goals of ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns.
