Additional Investment in Symbiobe Inc.
Innovation Kyoto 2021 Investment Limited Partnership ("KYOTO-icap No.2 Fund"), with Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation ("Kyoto iCAP") (Head Office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Kimi Kusumi) as unlimited liability partner, has made an additional investment in Kyoto University venture company (Head office: Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Keisuke Go), a venture company originating from Kyoto University.
Outline of this investment
Symbiobe is the result of research by Professor Keiji Numata of the Department of Materials Chemistry and Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, which has shown that marine photosynthetic bacteria can be used to produce CO2N2Symbiobe is a Kyoto University venture established in January 2021 based on the production technology of fixation and biomaterials, etc. So far, Symbiobe has successfully developed Air Silk (protein fiber), Air Feed (feed for aquaculture), and Air Fertilizer (nitrogen fertilizer) based on marine photosynthetic bacteria. The company has also constructed a demonstration plant for the cultivation of marine photosynthetic bacteria.
The realization of a decarbonized society is an urgent issue in the pursuit of a sustainable society, and countries around the world have declared greenhouse gas reduction targets and future carbon neutrality. Japan has also declared that it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 461 TP3T in FY2030 compared to FY13, and that it will be carbon neutral by 2050. As a result, activities and technological developments related to a decarbonized society are accelerating. In response to this trend, Symbiobe's marine photosynthetic bacteria have been shown to reduce CO2and N2The technology is expected to contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality through its ability to absorb and immobilize carbon dioxide (CO2) and produce biomaterials.
Kyoto iCAP is a Symbiobe marine photosynthetic bacterium that produces CO2N2In anticipation that its production technologies for fixation and biomaterials, etc. will contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society, Symbiobe has executed an additional investment of 100 million yen through a third-party allotment of new shares. The total amount raised is 200 million yen, and in addition to Kyoto iCAP, an investment limited partnership managed by Beyond Next Ventures, Inc. is participating in the project. symbiobe will use the funds raised this time to develop a demonstration plant for cultivating marine photosynthetic bacteria for CO2Demonstration of immobilization and development for practical use of biomaterials will be conducted.
