Innovation Kyoto 2016 Investment Limited Partnership ("KYOTO-icap No.1 Fund"), with Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation ("Kyoto iCAP") (Head Office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Kimi Kusumi) as unlimited liability partner, has made an investment in U-MAP Inc. (hereinafter referred to as "U-MAP") (Head office: Chikusa-ku, Nagoya; Representative Director: Kenji Nishitani), a venture company that utilizes research results from Kyoto University.

Outline of this investment
U-MAP is a venture company established based on the highly efficient mass synthesis technology of aluminum nitride whiskers invented by Professor Toru Ujihara of the Nagoya University Institute for Future Materials and Systems. U-MAP has concluded joint research agreements with Professor Shizuo Fujita and Professor Tsunenobu Kimoto of the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, respectively, and has demonstrated that the use of U-MAP products in power semiconductor modules improves heat dissipation characteristics.

With the increasing use of electricity for energy, the increase in power consumption for cooling has become a new social issue, and U-MAP's aluminum nitride whisker is a new material with excellent durability and heat dissipation properties, having the same thermal conductivity as metallic aluminum while being an electrical insulating ceramic. Furthermore, when mixed in small amounts with other ceramics, resins, rubbers, adhesives, oils, etc., highly insulating composite materials with heat dissipation properties and durability can be created. These materials are expected to be utilized as new heat-dissipating materials in various electrical components.

Kyoto iCAP has decided to underwrite approximately 100 million yen of the total capital increase of 360 million yen through a third-party allocation of new shares, based on its evaluation of the potential contribution of U-MAP's products to the SDGs and the development potential of its business, as there is a need for heat dissipation in materials for integrated circuits, LEDs, automobiles, and other applications. The capital increase was also supported by Realtech Japan LLC, Chukyo Yushi Corporation, Ito Y.K., Aichi Capital Corporation, and Global Brain Corporation. The funds raised will be used for product research and development and the establishment of a mass production system.
