Innovation Kyoto 2021 Investment Limited Partnership ("Kyoto-iCAP No. 2 Fund"), with Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation ("Kyoto-iCAP") (Head Office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; CEO: Kimi Kusumi) as general partner, has made an investment in Quantum Simulation Technologies, Inc. ("QSimulate") (Head office: Boston, USA; CEO: Toru Shiozaki), a venture company that utilizes research results from Kyoto University.

QSimulate is a U.S. startup founded in 2018 by CEO Shiozaki to conduct business based on his research on quantum chemical calculations at the University of Tokyo and Northwestern University, developing simulation software for materials design and drug molecule design. The company's software has an excellent user interface that can obtain highly accurate simulation results in a practical time frame, and has been praised by user companies for its ability to expand the use of quantum chemical simulations to departments that have not previously used them.

QSimulate is working with Associate Professor Yuki Kurashige of the Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University (Department of Theoretical Chemistry), who is also a user of the company's software, to introduce quantum chemical calculation algorithms created by Professor Kurashige in his past research, and to jointly research and develop algorithms to design new molecules from the properties and functions required. We aim to establish a total solution for materials design and drug discovery molecular design.

Kyoto iCAP has invested $500,000 in QSimulate to support the company's goal of providing a total solution for materials design and drug discovery molecular design that will serve as a foundation for industry and technological innovation in Japan, the U.S., and globally, QSimulate plans to use the funds raised to conduct joint research with Kyoto University and to establish a Japan office to support its domestic customers.
